Le groupe lactalisA GLOBAL COMPANY WITH A PASSION FOR UK DAIRY
170 Farms supplying 245 million litres per year
The Caledonian Cheese Company’s milk field is located in South West Scotland extending across Dumfriesshire, Galloway and Ayrshire.
Impacted by the gulfstream, the climate is relatively mild, though rather wet, resulting in the lowland and coastal areas being very productive grass growing regions.
As such the vast majority of our farmers follow traditional systems letting their cows out to graze from spring through to autumn.
It is this combination of a great natural environment for cattle and our farmer’s dedication to looking after all aspects of their health and welfare that combines to produce nutritious, hygienic milk for the production of our great range of cheeses.
Close10 Farms supplying 10 million litres per year
Our milk is collected from dedicated family owned farms in the West Country. The area is regarded as some of the best dairy farming land in the UK with ideal soils and good rainfall producing lush sweet grazing to guarantee the highest quality and freshness.
6 Goat farmers – 3 million litres
Our goats live in large, open straw-bedded barns designed to allow plenty of natural daylight and fresh air to enter and of course plenty of space for them to wander around. Goats like to be pampered and given the choice, prefer a cosy barn with their friends rather than outdoors suffering a harsh climate.
Our goats enjoy a varied diet and their food is readily available throughout the day. One of the main ingredients is maize silage – very similar to sweetcorn, maize grows well in the surrounding countryside.
The silage is mixed with sugar beet and soya bean meal. Hay made from the lush pastures is another ingredient.
