First Established In The UK

1988

The Lactalis story in the UK started in London in 1988 with the acquisition of a small importer and packer of specialty cheeses: David Brough Gourmet Foods.

1993

Network Of Subsidiaries

1993

Lactalis in the UK became part of a network of commercial subsidiaries created to develop sales for the products and brands outside its core French market.

2005

McLelland Acquisition

2005

Lactalis purchased A. McLelland and Son Limited; a Scottish based cheese manufacturer with a factory in Stranraer, included Caledonian Cheese Company Seriously® Strong brand. This acquisition included a shareholding in the Orkney Cheese Company and Dairy Solutions.

Galbani Acquistion

2006

Acquisition of the company Galbani, the international leader in Italian cheeses.

2006

Nestlé Joint Venture

2006

A joint venture “Lactalis Nestle Chilled Dairy” was created between the Lactalis Group and Nestlé, covering 9 European countries, bringing a well-known portfolio of yogurts including Ski®, the first yogurt launched in the UK in 1965, and Munch Bunch®.

2009

Lubborn Acquisition

2009

Lubborn Cheese Limited was integrated into the Lactalis Group and has since become the largest producer of soft cheese in the UK, including Brie, Camembert and Goats Cheese.

2010

Rachel’s Dairy Acquisition

2010

Lactalis acquired Rachel's Dairy Limited, the number two brand in the UK for organic yogurts. Rachel's became fully integrated into the Group in 2012 and kept their manufacturing facility based in Aberystwyth, on the mid-Wales coast.

Castelli Acquisitions

2019

Lactalis the Italian cheese maker Nuova Castelli. Castelli’s UK office is based in Sevenoaks, Kent.

Leerdammer Acquistion

2021

In October, the Group acquired the Leerdammer brand.

Rowcliffe Acquisition

Hawkridge Acquisition

Lactalis completed the acquisition in the UK of the Hawkridge Farmhouse Dairy Produce business based in Devon in the South-West of England. Hawkridge becomes part of the Anthony Rowcliffe wholesale.

In the UK, Lactalis has manufacturing sites in Stranraer (Scotland), Aberystwyth (Wales) and Lubborn (England), and in each area we are one of the major employers, with an important role to play in the local economy and community.

You’ll find our corporate head office in Grosvenor House, Redhill, Surrey. Based here are our marketing, sales, quality, HR, IT, supply chain, finance and financial planning & analysis and corporate teams. Together, we’re united in our ambition to deliver sustainable and profitable growth and develop our people.

Lactalis UK & Ireland represents the cheese, butter and cream-making side of our business, delighting consumers with tasty products from brands such as Galbani, Seriously®, Leerdammer and Président.

LACTALIS NESTLÉ CHILLED DAIRY

Lactalis Nestlé Chilled Dairy (LNCD) is a joint venture business, formed between the Lactalis Group and multinational food business Nestlé in 2006. LNCD specialises in chilled yogurt and dessert products.
